100 Word Challenge
My older brother smiles proudly down at me from the top of the tree. I glare up at him. Just because he is three years older than me he thinks that makes him better. He thinks I can’t climb to the top of the tree. I will show him.
I start by grabbing the lowest branches, trying to navigate the path that my brother had used to effortlessly climb. But how did he get up there? The gaps between branches become greater. I glance upwards, I’m not even halfway there. Then I slip. My legs give way beneath me, I tumble through the air. The ground rushes towards me and I hit it hard. Everything goes black.

The Teacup
Every Sunday I would visit her. It was the highlight of my week. Every time there was a different baked treat; pink iced buns, chewy chocolate chip cookies, and rich chocolate cupcakes. And always a cup of tea.
It has been five Sundays now since I haven’t been to visit her. The five worst Sundays of my life.
Today I found the teacup that my Grandma bought me for my birthday three years ago.
I carried the cup to the cemetery. I sat on the lush grass under the shade of a tree. There, I half buried my teacup. Half the teacup remains to remind me of my heart, now broken in two.

…but what if I was in charge?…
My evil stepsisters stand and cackle as I scrub the floor until
they can see the reflection of their ugly faces in it. But what if
I was in charge?… I would be the one laughing gleefully as
they grovelled uselessly at my feet.

They watch with pleasure as they force me to clean the
fireplace. But what if I was in charge?… They would clean

They sneer at my torn clothes. But what if I was in charge?...
Their expensive dresses would be no more than dirty rags.

The trees swayed peacefully in time to the whistling of the wind.
Against the angry grey sky the black tree silhouettes became like
skeletons. Silently they stalked, in a determined trance towards me.
They struck a threatening pose. Lightening cracked, illuminating skeletons. Silently they stalked, in a determined trance towards me.
their evil figures. I blinked. Everything was still. I blinked again.
There were only trees before me, swaying in time to the whistling
of the wind. But I swore I saw one of the old grooved trees wink a
woody eye at me. I turned and sprinted away, out of reach from
their grasping branches.

...we were moving very fast when…
It was a small and old car but my friend was standing beside it happily
grinning so I smiled encouragingly back. “Come on get in and we’ll take
it for a spin” Sam urged. “But you aren’t even allowed to take passengers
yet!” I said, he just laughed “Come on don't be silly” He was looking so
excited so I reluctantly climbed into the car. We sped down the road
heading towards the intersection. That was when Sam put his foot on
the accelerator. I screamed at him, but it was to late. We were moving
very fast when the truck hit us. We landed with a bone shattering crunch,
everything went black...
